Ventilation

Attic ventilation is essential.  A properly designed system must be installed with new shingles to validate your warranty and prevent the formation of ice dams in cold climates.

Also, to protect the attic from damage caused by excess heat in the summer and moisture in the winter.  The ideal system must work year round providing free flowing air along the entire under side of the roof deck for optimum results.

Several purposes for an attic ventilation system are:

  • To provide added comfort,

  • To help protect against damage to materials and structure

  • To help reduce energy consumption all year.

Proper ventilation protects your home from damage by:

  • Reducing moisture that causes mold, mildew & wood rot;

  • Preventing moisture damages insulation;

  • Helping to prevent ice buildups at the eaves; and,

  • Extending the life of your shingles and roof structure.

We use Lomanco vents, which are designed to provide exceptional weather protection and enhanced ventilation.  Ventilation is enhanced by the use of an external baffle that deflects wind and weather over the vent and creates negative pressure to move air from the attic, resulting in increased airflow.

Lomanco products also feature a patented weather filter to provide further protection from the elements.

Dealing with the effects of moisture buildup.  When winter arrives and temperatures plunge, you might think that the movement of heated air would no longer cause problems in attics.  But that’s not true.  With seasonal changes, the conditions just reverse.  Heat doesn’t travel from an attic into the living quarters.  Instead, heated indoor air travels from the home into the attic-along with moisture.

Ventilation can’t eliminate the transfer of heat from roof to attic, but it can minimize its effect.  To do that, a well-designed system must provide a uniform flow of cool air along the underside of the roof sheathing.  That steady flow of air carries heat out of the attic before it can radiate to the attic floor.
